As design preferences evolve, the latest surface trends are transforming interiors by blending aesthetics with functionality in fresh, innovative ways. From warm and textured to cool and muted, surfaces are no longer purely practical elements – they’re statement features that can set the tone for any space.
Oliver Webb, Director at Cullifords discusses which trends to look out for in the world of surfaces in 2025. Whether being used in kitchens, bathrooms or other applications, these trends reflect a growing desire for designs that are both visually striking and durable.
DETAILED NEUTRALS
“We’ve noticed an exciting new trend coming through, which we’re going to label as ‘detailed neutrals’. We expect to see more homeowners mixing it up in 2025, by combining calming and subdued colour-ways with more complicated, ribbed textures, offering a unique and complementary aesthetic to their interiors. This is a great choice for those who love a minimalist decorative scheme overall, but with added visual interest.”
A SOFTER TOUCH
“You might think installing natural stone must mean sharp edges and straight lines, but the versatile nature of stone means it can be used in softer, more subtle ways as well. Rounded edges and honed textures will bring a more refined touch to any space, combining elegance with a sense of warmth and charm. The smooth finish of honed stone, paired with the gentle curves of rounded edges are having a moment, due to the welcoming and cosy feeling it can create in homes. It offers a timeless and natural aesthetic which balances sophistication with comfort.”
ALL OVER WARMTH
“We’ve also spotted a growing trend for incorporating warm tones throughout a space, fully encompassing an entire room and exuding a cosy yet indulgent look. Opting for rich and earthy hues is particularly popular in the colder British climate, with our granite, limestone and marble options adding depth and texture to interiors.”
STRONG MARBLE COLOURS VS MUTED MARBLES
“Strong marble colours, such as deep reds and blacks, rich greens and blues, and bold veined patterns, have long been popular with homeowners looking to create an eye-catching statement. They work well in opulent design schemes, where striking visual elements are key to creating a sense of grandeur. On the flip side, more muted marbles in soft greys and whites, and more subtle veining, are favoured with homeowners looking to create a calming space which exudes an understated elegance. Both options vary in popularity each year, so it’ll be interesting to see which one comes out on top in 2025.”
VERSATILE CERAMICS
“Ceramic surfaces are more popular than ever with both homeowners and designers, thanks to its aesthetic appeal, practical benefits and versatile nature. Ceramic mimics the look of natural stone, making it a great alternative, with customers particularly impressed with its low maintenance, affordability and increased durability. It’s often formed from sustainable, moisture-resistant materials, which reduces the need for replacing it whilst contributing to environmental sustainability.”
